I loaded up my stuff (1 bag, 1 backpack) this morning, leaving a lot of clothes in Alicante, figured traveling light was going to be the only way to do this, and since I have been wearing those same clothes for almost 9 months, it was not hard to say goodbye. Except for my Chris Brown purple hoodie. (I didn't wear it that much anyway.)
Took the 5 hour train ride north to Barcelona, settled into my hostel and walked around the city. From what I have seen Barcelona mixes old with new well, you have your old statues/buildings, Gaudi relics, and then there are many new projects that were built from the 92' Olympics and such. I like it. From my rate of cities so far, it is around 3rd place. Berlin being number 1, Rome in 2nd. I have much more to see though.
Another thing about Barcelona is there are a lot of tourists. Europe is a touristic place in general but Barcelona seems to be even more blonde haired populated (that's how you know they aren't Spanish, lots of Northern Europeans) Could be due to Barcelona being a major Cruise destination. I saw 5 giant cruise liners at the port today, even a few taking out to sea.
The people here speak Catalan. It's a mix between Spanish, French, and something else. It's not very attractive but neither are most languages when they aren't your own, tend to blame the people on your grumpy feelings. I am ready to hear American English again at the moment.
I am starting to get a cold and so I have been taking it easy. It is 9:20 PM here, I think I am going to call it a night. I usually over work myself and prolong the colds, will try and relax remembering I have 5 nights here.
